Brief profile
Dr Dacia Leslie joined The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus, in 2016 from Cardiff University, where she completed a PhD in Criminology as a Commonwealth Scholar. She has written/co-edited three books and won many awards, including The UWI Mona/Guardian Life Premium Teaching Award. Throughout her career, which spans 16 years, both Dr Leslie’s research and consultancies have covered social justice issues, including the lived experiences of inmates, ex-prisoners, removed migrants and their child dependents to the intersection of her teaching focus on Development Studies, with a specialisation in Monitoring and Evaluation. Currently a Senior Research Fellow at the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social & Economic Studies, The UWI and a Research Associate of the Institute of Island Studies, University of Prince Edward Island, Dr Leslie is also a member of the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission Alumni Advisory Panel and Technical Secretary of the Bureau of Standards Jamaica’s, Correctional Services Technical Committee. As an M&E specialist she has trained over 100 postgraduate students and completed several consultancies geared towards strengthening MEL frameworks within the Caribbean region.
